There is an authenticity in the gastronomy of Trás-os-Montes which brings us immediately to its landscape and its people. Varied and colorful, the cuisine is the mirror of the identity of the region.

Based on the local products and meats of the region’s natural breeds – maronesa , mirandesa and bísara – or hunting , the table is fed up and calls for tasting.

We suggest you start by the cheese, some cured sausage and olives or olive oil itself. Then, it will be hard to choose between the succulent meats or always spectacular cod on rye bread with their unique flavours… always accompany with a good wine of Planalto Mirandês.

And since we cannot choose for you, here are some suggestions to taste typical dishes as slowly as possible and preferably in places with breathtaking sceneries, because in Trás-os-Montes the nature reigns…

Traditional dishes:

Posta Mirandesa, Bacalhau com Pão de Centeio, Butelo com Cascas, the Pisperno , Feijoada à Transmontana, Alheira de Mirandela, Coelho à Caçador o Javali no Pote, a Bola à Mirandesa,…

As for sweets, try the traditional Doce de Castanhas or pastry with Pitos de Santa Luzia and Cristas de Galo, both originating from the convent of Santa Clara , Ganchas and also Cavacórios which many use as a bowl to drink Port wine.

Bon appetit!
