The city of Horta is situated on the southwest coast of the island of Faial, built in a natural amphitheatre.

Its gardens and religious buildings are best viewed by walking around the city.
The church of São Salvador is particularly worthy of a visit. Originally belonging to the Jesuits, the church has a fabulous carved gilt high altar and magnificent panels of tiles, as well as other treasures that merit a leisurely visit.
We would also recommend the Botanical Garden, which is of much more than just scientific interest. It is a place of matchless beauty with a spectacular orchid house with numerous different species.
And finally the famous Horta Marina, the first leisure port to be opened in the Azores, which welcomes countless yachts crossing the North Atlantic.
