Although it is not the only village with a tradition of linen, Agarez is the most representative. In this Trás-os-Montes village in the Alvão Natural Park, a loom can no longer be found in every house, but there are still several weavers who ensure the survival of this art that runs through their veins.

The weavers themselves often grow the flax and spin and weave the linen. From the seed, linseed, to the pure linen fabric known as “bragal” these women create unique pieces that are true relics. And they do so with spectacular skill and an infectious pleasure that spreads to anyone who has the honour of watching them.
Here they weave emotions that create true works of art: bedspreads, tablecloths and other pieces.
And because this is a tradition that we believe should be appreciated and preserved, we would also like to mention the villages of Mondrões and Couto as places where these arts are also still part of the local tradition.
