Situated in the municipality of Ourém, in the district of Leiria, Fátima is one of the main religious pilgrimage centres of Marian devotion.
Every year, during the celebrations on 13 May and 13 October, thousands of faithful from all over the world flock to the Shrine of Fátima to celebrate the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children, Lúcia, Jacinta and Francisco.
The Chapel of the Apparitions is on the site of the holm oak where the children saw the “Lady” for the first time. In its interior, the statue of the Virgin has a crown with the bullet used in the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, which was the third part of the Secret of Fátima.
It is a place of Faith and Hope that leaves no one indifferent.
